Container Depot

A container depot is an area within the yard where containers are stored and prepared for transit. The yard's personnel manages the container depot (storage areas) using the TOS (Terminal Operating System).

When cargo has been unloaded, vehicles or specialized equipment move it to the corresponding depot. Depots provide shipping and logistic companies with an appointed place where the company's officials can register the cargo. Unlike cargo follow transitions and stowage places, container depots keep the containers for an extended period. On top of that, the depot is responsible for the container's safety.

Container depots are an integral part of the container terminal business. These storage areas are usually located within port facilities for cargo follow transition areas. However, it can lie within the terminal and adjacent territory. Usually, the container transfer takes much less time if the depot is closer to the terminal.

Depot personnel conducts frequent technical maintenance and check-ups of the container storage areas. The container terminal’s deport maintenance includes such services as repair, cleaning, container sales and transportation, commercial and bonded warehouses, fumigation, and others.
